Saturday

What better way to spend a Saturday night than with loads of fondue, 10 close friends, and a plan for bad, 80’s inspired family christmas photos?

Oh yes, we did. Blue eyeshadow and all.

More photos in the next couple of days! Sleep now, then early breakfast, Etsy craft show, and a stint hitting up the eastside culture crawl

      4/4 Surgeons

      • Posted at: 11:46 pm • 3 Comments

      Agree I am very broken

Never seen a knee like it!

Uh, he’s the resident of the ultra specialist and gets to see broken knees from far and wide. My broken knee has earned me an appointment with the actual ultra knee specialist (not to be confused with the regular knee specialist who had no idea what to do with my knee back in september), much ahead of the 3 months to 3 years timeframe I was given by his office a couple weeks ago. He’s a busy man, but, it would seem, I warrant being moved to the top of the list so he can see it for himself and try to make a decision about how to approach surgery. The resident just scratched his head, but was noticeably excited about getting to work on a complicated case :)

I go back next Thursday and will officially be on the surgery wait list at that point, the only reason I’m not on it now is that he’s not sure if it will be day surgery or longer because he wasn’t sure how they were going to go about repairing all 4 - yes, all of them - of the ligaments in my knee.

Oh yes - you heard that right.

Anatomy 101 - your knee is held together with 4 main ligaments. Your MCL is on the inside of the knee and prevents your knee from buckling inwards, your LCL is on the outside of the knee and prevents your knee from buckling outwards, your ACL holds your tibia to your femur and prevents your tibia from coming forwards, and your PCL also holds your tibia to your femur and prevents your tibia from going backwards.

In my trip on the beach, I managed to destroy all 4 ligaments.

This is basically an unheard of situation, hence the head scratching. The surgeon was surprised I could walk, but I can thanks to my ultra fancy custom knee brace. All good fun.

I’ll see the knee surgeon god next Thursday and should have an idea of what the surgery plan is from there. Normal wait to surgery is a few months, but I’m hoping that with the cancellation list I’ll get in sooner rather than later - fingers crossed.

It’s all a little crazy but entertains me and I am happy to have people agree that I am indeed very broken, so all is good.

On one hand I’m glad to hear that you’re being pushed to the top of the list but on the other hand it totally sucks that your knee is that messed up.

I’m glad things are finally moving forward!

Your injury is indeed intriguing and you should be proud you managed to hurt yourself so extensively. I mean, you beat me by 3 ligaments.

Okay, I think you should be on a show that showcases strange phenomena from around the world! Dudes who play rough and tumble sports for a living (like football, hockey, car racing) don’t get injuries like this. Was there at least alcohol involved or simply a wayward tumble on the sand? Maybe they can give you a bionic knee, although not sure how that would help you unless you plan to be a kicker for the BC Lions. You would make a ton of money, though :-0

          Resume Entertainment - Edition 942

          • Posted at: 5:46 pm • No Comments

I will never cease to be entertained by the resumes and applications people send out.

Following my recent post on this sort of thing (and a real followup is still to follow), we received another laugh out loud funny resume today.

This one is particularly entertaining as this guy just completed his Masters in Electrical Engineering with honours, but it seems photography is his true calling. I suppose he has honesty points going for him, but I only wish he was actually going for funny - because the cover letter and resume pointed to extreme seriousness. Once again, how NOT to land yourself a job -

            Lovestruck is a wrap!

Up at 7am, arrived for load in and setup by 9:30, doors at 11, photography talk at 12, close at 8, load out by 9, at the bar next door for beer and needed food by 9:15, home by 11pm

When I say busy, it’s not an understatement

Tomorrow’s plan is sleep a little extra, catch up on neglected emails, deal up most important client tasks, deal up most important indie i do tasks. Wash, rinse, repeat for most of the week. This stuff needs to get done this week because we’ve got a shoot booked in the studio for half of next week, and dude, it’s already the middle of November

Did I mention that someone told me my life sounds glamorous and interesting today? Heh.

              Saturday

              • Posted at: 9:10 pm • No Comments

The last couple of weeks have basically been as busy as humanly possible… and it’s not quite over yet

Tomorrow we are exhibiting at Lovestruck - a wedding show in its second year put on by a wedding coordinator we know.

As well as exhibiting, I’m also giving an hour long presentation about how to choose and hire a wedding photographer, so I’ve just spent the past few hours trying to pull together that presentation and the 2 page handout I just wrote.

SO - needless to say - no time for much of anything!

After tomorrow I think I will need another day to recouperate, but I also need to reply to a whole pile of email that’s been neglected and get back to important things like regular client work so actual recouperation is likely to be on hold for a bit. Eep!

                3rd Annual Blue Olive Bash

                • Posted at: 9:36 pm • No Comments

                Wahoo!

We hosted 70 (yes, 70) wedding photographers and assorted guests at our studio last night. With the last guests leaving at 3 am, I’d say it was a huge success!

Today I enjoyed laying in bed with my laptop working on the Indie site and a few other odds and ends, but no officialy work. We have work to do all weekend so I didn’t feel guilty in the slightest.

Photobooth pics from last night are super fun but still need some quick editing before they go up, but that will come soon. And, as soon as we finish cleaning up from the party, we should be able to take some studio photos too! Only a couple small projects left on that list, thank goodness

                Chat soon!

                  • Posted at: 1:45 pm • No Comments

Today I really know I have no time for blog posts… in just a few short hours somewhere between 60-80+ photographers will be knocking on the door for our annual wedding photographer end of season bash!

The liquor delivery should be here soon, followed by the caterers. Cleaning is almost complete with just a few areas left to attend to, and just a couple more small projects to finish before we open the doors.

                  Pictures to come hopefully tomorrow!
